… I carried around this dumb, little dog just everywhere. No one really remembers when I got him. We just know that I was already rather attached to him when the family took a trip to Nashville when I was four or five, so we arbitrarily decided I must have received him as a present for my fourth birthday. He sleeps in a cradle handmade by my grandfather and under a little blanket that came from my great-grandmother who lived to be 105.

As the headlines continue to chronicle the violence in the Middle East, I remembered a peaceful time. Communion outside a garden tomb. This is the cup we used in that Communion service outside the walls of Jerusalem. It represents the blood of the One who brought, is bringing and will bring true peace to all who turn to Him.

Remnants of the ice storm that wasn’t as dire as predicted. Photo was taken on 7 January 2009 which, for anyone keeping score, means that I have already used this week’s free day.

From my 5 January 2009 shoot (such as it was), an extreme close-up of my guitar. I need to spend more time with that bad boy in ‘09.

January 3 was such a pretty day that I decided to take a back road through a state park in the area rather than the highway. I stopped in at the lake to find this sign. If only I could crack through the ice to go for a little dip!

It rather likely that the Christmas decorations will come down today, so I decided to take some pictures of them for the January 2 photo shoot. Above is an ornament my niece made using paints and a clear plastic ornament. I’m not nearly handy enough to have come up with that idea.

The year started off with a bang at the town’s fireworks display. The fireworks are basically set off on a main street through town so the brightness of the explosions interact with the darkness of the tree branches and overhanging wires. Really, it is kind of a crazy thing to do.
