Psalm 96:11-13

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;

let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the LORD, for he comes,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Psalm 96:11-13 (English Standard Version)

The forest is noisy.

Not the man-made, mass-produced cacophony of civilization. No engines running. No thumping bass coming from a nearby car. No tapping of fingers on a Mac keyboard. No belching of emissions from the nearby factory.

The forest is noisy all the same.

Peepers are peeping.

Birds are singing.

Leaves crunch underfoot.

Pines sigh as the wind passes through their branches

Water whispers as it cascades over rocks.

The sounds bring the Psalm to life. Though Psalm 96 speaks of a future day of judgment, it’s images are profound for today as the trees, the birds, the water and the peepers pipe up in praise to the Holy One.
